Selecting The Right College

It’s that time in your life to make the big decision and you are hearing a lot of different things.  Relax! Perhaps these tips are just the thing you need to simplify things and kill all the confusing noise.  Asking the right questions often leads to the obvious answer/solution.  I think Sherlock Holmes said that or was it my man Columbo!?!?!?

Here’s a checklist:

  1. Is the school offering me a full scholarship?
  2. Do they offer a degree in the field(s) that I’m most interested in?  (Check out “selecting a major”)
  3. Do I have a legitimate opportunity to play immediately? (Please see for more details regarding this issue).
  4. Was the coaching staff honest during the recruiting process?
  5. Do I need to be close to home? If yes, know the reasons why! If no, also know the reasons why! Keep it real with yourself!!!
  6. Do I want to compete professionally after I complete my collegiate career?
  7. What was the lasting impression I had on my recruiting visit?  Wow, I felt at home! These players aren’t serious about ball!  The staff knows their stuff and definitely can help me get better!  These guys treat one another like brothers! Etc, Etc, Etc.
