Handling and Recruiting

All yeah, you have a little action from schools and coaches. Here are a few tips to help you with the process.

  1. Become familiar with NCAA recruiting rules. (Extremely helpful).
  2. Create & keep a record/log of coach communications. This will help track what they say and if they contradict over time.
  3. Always be honest and upfront with the coach but limit details of your thoughts unless you are ready to announce your decision. The key during this time is to be a great listener!!!  The coach can reveal much about how staff sees you if you listen carefully and ask the right questions.
  4. Must prepare ahead of time with a base of general questions and do your research to prepare more specific questions for each particular school. Here are some examples of general and specific questions.  Feel free to send an email or post a comment for additional info!

Examples of General Questions:

  1. How many scholarships do you have for my graduating class?
  2. How many scholarships do you have at my position?
  3. What is the graduation rate for athletes in my sport?
  4. Does your university offer the major I seek a degree in?
  5. Do you have a program that I can obtain my masters degree while under scholarship?

Examples of Specific Questions:

  1. How does my athletic skill set match-up with your game plan?
  2. How do you see best utilizing me?
  3. Do you envision me playing right-a-way?
  4. What is the employment rate for graduates with a degree in X?
  5. Are you, (head coach) committed to being at university until I graduate?
