Junior College Option

There are two types of athletes that come to mind when considering a Junior college as an option to begin a collegiate athletic career.  Here are a few situations that make Junior college a legitimate option in either situation.

Athlete Without Grades (Academically ineligible to receive an athletic scholarship).

  1. Do not have an interest or a scholarship from a prep school.
  2. Can’t afford prep school tuition.
  3. Academic scores will not change enough for a scholarship with an additional year of school.
  4. Talent, abilities, and recruiting process make it clear Division II or Division III is not an option. (If going pro is not the priority, Div. II or Div. III can be viable options!!!)
  5. Physical development is critical and needs more time.

Athlete With Grades (Academically eligible to receive an athletic scholarship).

  1. Not recruited but possess a legitimate ability to play well at the Div. I level, or.
  2. Div. I school highly recommends a particular JUCO.
  3. Do not have an interest or a scholarship from a prep school.
  4. Can’t afford prep school tuition and extremely reputable JUCO is local.
  5. Talent, abilities, and recruiting process make it clear Division II or Division III is not an option. (If going pro is not the priority, Div. II or Div. III can be viable options!!!)
